Scottish Knights of Christ History

 

1118              Knights of Christ (Milites Templi) were founded by

                    Hughes De Payens. King Baldwin of Jerusalem grants

                    them a dwelling on the site of the Ancient Temple of

                    Solomon.

 

1128                Hughes De Payen visits his relatives in Scotland (Not St

                    Clairs). Appoints Prince David as Prior of Scotland.  

                    Prince David endorses the Order with lands at

                    Ballintroddoch. This is the first Templar land in Scotland.

 

1128/9             Council of Troyes under Cardinal Bishop of Albano,

                    Bernard  Abbot of Clairvaux, is charged by Pope and

                    Council to draw up the Rule of the Order. He did so with

                    Great fervour and it was granted by the Church. Hence

                    why St Bernard is the Patron Saint of the Scottish

                    Knights of Christ, Temple of Jerusalem.

 

1146                  Pope Honorius grants the Red Cross Pattee to the Knights of Christ as a sign of the Orders willingness to die for the faith. The Cross of Martyrdom, The Eight Beatitudes.

 

1149/50            King David of Scotland knighted the future King Henry

                     II of England on Whit Sunday.

 

1154                  Sovereign authority of the Knights of Christ, Grand Master recognized by Luis Vll of France (Later St Luis).

 

1163                   Catalan rule Requiring The Knights of Christ to swear an Oath of Fealty to their Ruler.

 

1244                   The loss at the Battle of Forbie was a disaster for the Order. The final loss of Jerusalem. The Headquarters were moved to the coastal city of Acre.

 

1297                   The Scottish Parliament at Perth calls on all lords spiritual and Temporal to oppose the invading English under Edward 1st. The Templar Order of Scotland takes to the field to defend Scotland.

 

1309                  The Scottish Order is tried by the English invaders in Holyrood Abbey on December 15th. The trial by Papal Legate and Bishop Lamberton Found the said and named Scottish Order not guilty, Despite the sworn false evidence of  the Knights of Christ guilt by William Sinclair and his son Sir William.

 

1314                    The Order fights at Bannockburn under its Grand  

                              Master Robert the Bruce King of Scots. The Order of

                              St John, and English Templars fought alongside the

                              English against the Scots.

 

 

 

1317                     The Scottish Knight Templars are renamed by the Grand Master as Knights of St John of Jerusalem, Temple of Solomon. Their combined properties were listed separately. The use of a black mantle with a white cross of Amalfi. (our flag colours)

 

1689                      The Prior and acting Regent Dark John of the Battles Grahame of Claverhouse was assassinated with a silver bullet in his back by a Quisling Scot paid in English gold. He died wearing his Grand Cross of the Scottish Knight Templars.

 

1705                     General statutes read out in public at the Mercat cross Edinburgh. The Order supports the king of Scots. Who was De Facto, De Jure, rightful King of Scots.

 

1745                     September. Prince Charles Edward Stuart, himself like all other members of the Royal house of Scotland born a Senior Knight Templar. Held a Soiree where he was appointed Prince Regent of the Order.

 

1746                     16th April, Butchers apron of shame flies high over the Genocide at Culloden and aftermath where even blinded and lamed females were tortured, raped, and shot by Unionist forces. The Scottish Resistance continued to oppose the unionist Oppressors.

 

1853                     Napoleon lll acknowledges the Order as a sovereign Power and grants the Order the right to wear Decorations on French soil.

 

1979                     Representatives of the Templars from Germany, Scotland, Italy, and Austria combined after years of negotiations to form the OICMTH under Canon Johannes Becker in Rome. The forerunner of the 2006 Vatican Papal Recognition.

 

1995                     Representatives of the OICMTH from Germany, Austria, Scotland attend an audience with his Holiness Pope John Paul II

 

2005                   The Chief Mondial with members from Malta attends the first Mass of Pope Benedict XVI in the Vatican. Also first Papal audience with Pope Benedict XVI, A series of communications follow.

 

2006                   Sept 8th the Order signs the Charter 2000 and is now formally under Authority of the church with the Catholic Patriarch Gregory III of Antioch, all East of Alexandria and Jerusalem. The Vatican instructs us to use the name Military Order Knights of Christ, Temple of Jerusalem.
